Fan Videos

Anyone who’s gotten to know me will tell you I’m no fan of third-party video-hosting sites. I have a particularly intense dislike for YouTube, of an intensity I used to reserve only for Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses. But I still want to give credit to the creators of fan videos, because they’ve put so much time and effort into making something so awesome for the rest of us to enjoy. I’ve figured out a compromise: I’ll be directly embedding each video file I choose here on the page, followed by a link back to the vidder’s YouTube channel. If YT in their “infinite wisdom” have yanked or blocked the vidder’s hard work on their site, well..there’s still a credited copy on here for you to watch.

Have you made a Bates Motel fan video and don’t like the idea of YouTube randomly taking it down? Let me know and I’ll add it here! Here’s what to do:

1. Make sure it’s a .mp4 file.

2. Compress it to around 10 MB, best for web streaming.

3. Send it to me at checkedinbatesmotel@yahoo.com. Include any links to any social profiles you have, and I’ll add those too.

I will never remove any submitted fan videos from this page.

This is the first fan video of any kind I ever made, back in the summer of 2013. I know the quality’s not that great; I was flying by the seat of my pants and figuring out how to do it as I went along.

This video’s beautiful and tragic, just like Norma and Norman themselves *sigh. It’s also one of my favorite dark new wave songs from the 80s: “Mad World,” originally done by Tears for Fears. I want to learn how to edit like this someday… Credit to Lachka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-cl=84924572&v=ZzeZ-mFUORc&x-yt-ts=1422411861

This is another favorite video; it’s awesome how both the original “Psycho” and the new “Bates Motel” are blended together so perfectly. Credit to IValouChanl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-cl=84924572&x-yt-ts=1422411861&v=o6yVqAyjt6o

These two love each other, in whatever dysfunctional form it might take, and this video captures that wonderfully.

This one makes me smile, then makes me want to cry, all in just over a minute.
